Transform Your Master Bedroom Sitting Area into a Luxury Walk-In Closet

5.29.2019

Do you have a large master bedroom with an area of extra space, the kind often referred to as a “sitting area”? This is a common feature in many modern homes – unfortunately, many homeowners are letting this space go to waste, when it could be incorporated to add more luxury to their day-to-day lives.

Here at Modular Closets, we love helping homeowners maximize the space they have available and create homes that feel expansive and stylish. That’s why we love this new home renovation trend to turn extra master bedroom space into a customized storage solution.

If you’d like some inspiration for transforming your under-utilized master bedroom sitting area into a functional, luxurious space in your home, here are 3 considerations:

1. Make it of One Piece

It’s so common today to see master bedrooms where the closets are overflowing but the sitting room area is unused. The solution is to transform this unused space into an open master bedroom closet.  In order to do this, successfully, however, you want to make sure that everything fits together into one cohesive design.

You don’t want your new area to feel out of place.  That’s why it’s important, for example, to merge your existing color and design scheme into the new area. It’s often best to start with neutral closet features – such as drawers and open shelves, and then fill your open shelves with accessories that extend the existing style of your room.

Ideally, your new open shelves will be both decorative and functional.  For example, you may want to curate your handbag collection so what you take out on the town also adds to the style of your master bedroom.

2. Consider Your Lifestyle Needs

When transforming your sitting area into a new open custom closet, it’s important to prioritize your lifestyle needs and preferences.

For example, if you love to play a particular sport, such as golf or tennis, you may want to create a designated cabinet or drawer space just for your gear. If you love to wear make-up, you may want to incorporate space for a vanity.

Think about where the current messes are in your house, and see if you can transform this extra space so that it will suit your storage needs.  Maybe it’s extra storage for your office supplies, your kids’ toys, or even adding a fish tank in there!
Or maybe there’s a new collection you’d like to pursue, such as antiques or special collectibles. and this can be your first step in preparing for it.

3. Make it Happen

It’s easy to daydream about adding new features to your home and improving your day-to-day living.  But it’s not enough to simply dream – you have to go out and make it happen.

Luckily, adding a custom closet system or storage solution to your space can be a straightforward and relatively simple task.  And you can get support in getting it done!
