3 Key Tips to Make Your Home Organization Last

3.7.2019

It’s one thing to get your house tidied up and cleaned. But the big hurdle is figuring out how to do a home organization so that it lasts.

At Modular Closets, we’re passionate about creating closet systems and home organization solutions that make it easy to not only get organized but to stay that way. Part of the key to success includes identifying habits and coming up with better solutions so that you’re set up to do the right thing again and again. This way, keeping clean and organized is easy to do

If you’ve recently tidied up your home and want to make sure your home organization will last, try following these 3 tips:

1. Consider Your Unique Lifestyle and Tastes

One of the main reasons that home organization doesn’t stick is because the advice you hear is often the same everywhere, but people are unique and different.

One strategy for success is to figure out what matters most to you. Maybe you don’t mind if papers pile up on your desk, but a pile of mail in your entryway will drive you nuts. Figure out exactly what is “organized enough” for your taste. There’s no need for you to get stressed out about every little detail.

As a general rule, you want your space to be functional and efficient for the tasks you will be doing there. You may, for example, need the flexibility of a room that can serve as a home office during the week and a guest bedroom on weekends and holidays. For every room of your house, consider what are your priorities for space, and how can you set it up to be “organized enough.”

2. Focus on Habits and Behaviors

Do your shoes always end up on a pile on the floor? Maybe it’s time to consider why. Chances are if you’ve got a bad habit it’s because it’s something that’s easy to do.

If you want to stay organized, one of the best things to do is focus on your bad habits and find alternative solutions that are also easy. For example, shoe shelves can be incorporated into either a walk-in or reach-in closet that will give you a designated space to easily put each pair of shoes you own.

Another good tip is to keep things stored where you need and use them. Probably your shoes have gotten piled up on the floor near or in your closet because that’s where you’re getting changed every day. So, for example, you’d want to incorporate your shoe shelves where you would be taking your shoes on and off. If you have several pairs of shoes for outdoor use that you take on and off by the door, you may want to incorporate additional shoe shelves near your entryway.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help and/or Support

If the idea of keeping your home organized is making you feel nervous or anxious, make sure to enlist some extra help or support.

Maybe this involves delegating specific tasks to different members of your family so that the work of the home organization is spread out on a day to day basis. Maybe you want to call in a professional organizer or designer to help you figure out a holistic plan that will give you a long-term storage solution.

Creating beautiful, quality closet systems and storage solutions at an affordable price is what we do best here at Modular Closets. Our design experts can work with your closet measurements and unique lifestyle needs to create a custom closet that will work for you long-term.
