Hi, everybody. Today, I am going to talk about the 3 steps of how to organize your space. Today, I'm gonna focus on how to organize your closet because that's my favorite space to organize, and we're in a closet, my closet. I'm going to talk about the 3 steps of how to do it, but it applies to absolutely any organizing project you do. Truly, this, it will never go out of style.

I could promise you that it works. You just gotta trust me on this. This is the system to do if you are organizing your space. It could be a drawer, it could be your closet, it could be your bedroom, your bathroom, it doesn't matter. This is what you have to do.

Step 1, empty the space. When I say empty, I mean really empty. The whole thing. There should be nothing left. We are starting with a blank canvas and that's what I want you to think about it as.

We're just a a fresh fresh slate, a new chapter, a new space and it should really actually look like you just moved into that space, into your house. Right? In this instance, when I did my closet, I emptied absolutely everything. There was nothing left. Not one thing was left in here.

That is the first step. Now people ask, well, Christina, where do I put this stuff? A couple options. If you have a room that's adjacent to it, that's right next door, that's the best scenario. Right?

If you have a guest room, for example, that's amazing. If you're in the kitchen and you could use your dining room, like, something like that where it's right next door, but it's out of the space, that's great. However, we don't always have that luxury. I get it. Listen, I live in a 1 bedroom apartment so I get it.

I promise. In this instance, I had to use my living room and like I said, 1 bedroom apartment. All of this stuff and you can't really see over here but the clothes are in all directions. It took up my entire apartment. Sometimes that's just what we have to do during this process.

Hallways are also great. A lot a lot of times I've done that where there's not an extra room, but there's hallway space. So, we'll use that. Step 1, empty it completely, completely bare. Step 2, categorize.

When you are categorizing, you're essentially putting it into piles. This all sounds so simple, but it's just part of the process, and there's a lot more there's a lot more into it when you start. It definitely is a project. So, you can get as detailed as you want with this. Listen, as as long as you're creating categories, you're ahead of the game.

I promise. You're you're doing it right. But try to get as detail oriented as possible. In the instance of my closet, I'm of course going to have sweaters and t shirts and tank tops and jeans and dress pants, dresses, all the categories. But a lot of times we can do subcategories.

So we can do it by seasons. We can do it by ones that we wear the most and ones that we don't wear a lot. For example, I'm just looking at my closet right now. I have a section. I live in Nashville.

I'm from Jersey, but I live in Nashville right now, and I have a section for all of my Nashville shirts, like all the shirts that say Nashville on it. That's its own category. Those are called subcategories. We want as many piles as humanly possible and you can use a little post it or just a little piece of paper, whatever you have, and write the name of the pile on it. That is step 2.

And then step 3 is decluttering. Decluttering, we are gonna talk about all the roadblocks that are associated with it in a different video, but decluttering is figuring out what you no longer need in this space. We do not want to bring everything back into this closet. We wanna make sure that in this closet, it's everything that I'm that I really, really need and that makes me happy and that I feel good in. Right?

That is part of the process. That's and that's, to me, what probably the biggest part is decluttering and really really dedicating time to figuring out what you want back into your space. Those are the 3 steps of this process. Now, of course, there's more because then we jump into the organizing side, designing your closet, all of that. But, for this video, I'm gonna leave it at this.

This is part 1 of the 3 steps of how to start your organizing project. Empty the space. Piles. And number 3, declutter. Once those are done, then you can move on to the fun part which is designing the space, designing your closet, getting all inspiration for it, and then putting it all back together and organizing.

Happy organizing everybody. Follow Christina's corner for more tips and tricks of how to get organized.
