As summer comes to an end this weekend, a new season of work is upon is. And, if you have kids, the new school year is about to begin. This weekend is all about savoring these last moments of summer with family and friends. It can be overwhelming if you don't have a plan, but fret not! Here are my top tips for getting and staying organized this Labor Day Weekend!
Tip 1:
Gather everything you need for that last pool party, beach trip, or barbecue so you can not only enjoy the Labor Day festivities but also start to see:
- What you need to de clutter and leave behind this summer
- What sunscreen lotions may be expired
- Are your towels torn or damaged?
- Do you have clothing you don’t like anymore, or that doesn't fit?
Make a list so you're ready for next summer. If you really want to be prepared go buy the items now so you are super organized for next summer.
Tip 2:
Decide what you want to keep and pack away for summer 2022. For example, if all your beach chairs are in good shape store them away.
Tip 3:
Ask yourself what items you can carry into the Fall
- Bug spray
- Light summer/fall jackets
This allows you to see everything you have, enjoy the Labor Day festivities and begin to de-clutter and organize for next year.
And, before the weekend ends, make sure to follow these next steps:
1. De-Clutter Your Kids School Clothes
Whether your child's school has a uniform dress code, or your children will be choosing their own clothes, now is a great time to get prepared and de-clutter their school clothes. A lot of growing happens in one school year! So, be sure to categorize the following:
- What still fits?
- What you need to purchase?
- How many uniforms do you need?
Work It Out
- If you are getting organized for a new season of work, this still applies! See what fall work outfits you have, what you like or don’t like anymore, and what you may need to purchase.
2. Organize A Homework Station
Setting up a homework station works great for both those who are learning virtually and those who are going back to the classroom. This is the best time to prepare so you are ready to tackle school work.
Find a designated spot to store extra school supplies like paper, pencils, calculators etc. The modular closet drawers would be a great spot for these! Or you can place extra supplies in a bin on one of our solid shelves.
If your kids have everything they need in their backpack then set aside a spot they can come home and work at. By assigning a spot, it becomes routine and they know exactly where to go to do their homework.
3. Organize Your Entryway
As you transition from Summer to Fall, pack away the sun hats, sunglasses and sunscreen and replace your entryway drawers and bins with baseball hats, and a light scarf.
I hope these tips help you enjoy this Labor Day Weekend! Remember to enjoy the moments with family and friends. It's not about being perfect, it's just about being prepared!
